Ava Hankins poses with her art project, 'Man's Best Friend' which she submitted to the Congressional Art Commission competition. Her work advances to a second round of judging and Congressman Mike Levin will announce the winners at a special event on April 2 in Oceanside. The winning artists will be presented with checks for $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $100 for third place. All artists whose work was selected for the museum display will be given a certificate recognizing their achievement and a photo opportunity with the Congressman. The art awarded first place will be shipped to the US Capitol to be put on display for one year. Also, the winning artist will receive two roundtrip plane tickets to Washington, DC to attend the national Congressional Art Competition reception on June 25, 2026.
